Landis+Gyr, a publicly listed multinational Swiss corporation, recently in a press release statement on Monday, Feb. 4th, 2019, announced successful Wi-SUN FAN 1.0 standard certification of its Gridstream Connect network node.
According to Gary High, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management at Landis+Gyr, the certification is an important step ahead for interoperability. With smart infrastructure, utilities can further extend the value of their field networks. Adding further, he said that the company’s loyal customer base is already realizing the benefits of deploying best-fit technology in their networks, and with company’s Gridstream Connect platform, the customers can experience the network flexibility and device integration from the edge of the grid to the back office.
Field area networks (FANs) provide communication coverage for utility assets such as sensors, smart meters, and automation devices. With a blooming grid-edge applications market, the traditional FAN connectivity standards further broaden the choices which will further accelerate the device development process.
The Wi-SUN FAN Certification Program with its compliance testing of network components and devices to a communications profile developed from applicable open standards certifies interoperability of products. All Wi-SUN certified products go through rigorous third-party testing to ensure seamless and secure functioning of the devices. These certified devices include a digital certificate which ensures authenticity to enter a Wi-SUN FAN network, which drastically reduces cyber threat vulnerabilities.
