Computer software company Adobe has released a new feature for its suite of photo-editing apps, named Enhance Details, which utilizes Machine Learning to artificially enhance the resolution and picture quality of zoomed-in images. This new feature works by introducing Machine Learning to a process called Demosaicing, an algorithmic step that happens during the formation of a digital image, in which the camera adds color to the initial monochrome file.
Adobe, through the new Enhance Details feature, is adding Artificial Intelligence to the mix, where the company utilized Deep Learning to train a Demosaicing algorithm on an enormous dataset of more than 1 billion taster images. With this data, the program learned the best way to color images that leads to a slight improvement in picture quality. The Adobe’s Enhance Details feature will be available in Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic CC, and Lightroom CC for Mac and Windows. In addition, the company claimed that it can boost the resolution of certain images by up to 30 percent. However, the actual enhancements are not as striking as that figure might make.
This is not the first time that Adobe is utilizing Artificial Intelligence in this way, many independent services provide similar Machine Learning capabilities, but it is still vital that Adobe is developing this service into its immensely popular products. Albeit, this is not the first AI tool the company has tested with, meanwhile, Adobe considers that Machine Learning will play a crucial role in its future business.
