Creating a new class of Mobile IoT Modules, GeoTraq has developed a Tracker-Module and a Sensor-Module for asset tracking and remote monitoring. The company’s new penny-sized Mobile IoT Modules will revolutionize the way businesses locate assets and communicate data globally.
GeoTraq is using Sequans’ Monarch SiP, which is the world’s most highly-optimized LTE-M/NB-IoT chip, combined with the universal radio front end of Skyworks®. Monarch provides full support for power saving mode (PSM) and extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) to enable the long battery life needed by many IoT use cases and is enhanced by additional GeoTraq software. For LTE positioning, Monarch incorporates Polte’s IoT location technology for accurate, low power indoor and outdoor positioning capability using only the LTE radio. Monarch also delivers programmable RF filtering for global band support in a Single-SKU™, and proprietary dynamic power management technology, enabling rock bottom low power consumption of 1 micro amp. Monarch is certified by operators worldwide.
GeoTraq Mobile IoT Modules will offer many of the same core features of their original G-200 GSM module. Ultrasmall in size, the modules offer a self-contained form factor, which eliminates the need for designing a printed circuit board for mounting. The modules are plug-and-play ready and simply require the attachment of an antenna, battery, and sensors. By only reporting scheduled or trigger-based events, the modules extend batteries to a 10+ year operational lifetime. Examples of trigger-based events include voltage drops, environmental changes, pressure variation, or detection of a geofence boundary. Available at a low cost for the module and service plan, the process of deploying an IoT solution is made more accessible and financially feasible than ever before.
On February 21, 2019, the GSMA announced in a press release that “Mobile IoT or Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networks are now globally available in licensed spectrum in 49 markets around the world following 93 launches by 50 different mobile operators across both LTE-M and NB-IoT. Coverage is now expected to reach approximately 93% of the world’s largest IoT markets by Q2 2019. According to GSMA Intelligence forecasts, by 2025 there will be 3.5 billion cellular IoT connections, including 1.9 billion licensed LPWA connections.”
The new GeoTraq Mobile IoT Modules will offer a Tracker-Module for asset tracking and Location Based Services. The second Mobile IoT Module is a Sensor-Module used for remote monitoring. Both of the new modules are considered LPWA technology with LTE-M/NB-IoT connectivity.
General Manager and CTO of GeoTraq, Pierre Parent, shares “Our niche in the IoT/ M2M industries is focused on Simple IoT solutions. Our modules enhance the capabilities of existing technology by driving innovation in our products.”
With mobility in mind, GeoTraq bridges the gaps that exist in coverage for IoT deployments using short-range technology such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The new modules will provide extended wireless coverage modes for deep-indoor and remote deployments both indoors and outdoors, using existing cellular infrastructure. GeoTraq coins their connectivity as, “The edge of the edge.”
GeoTraq expects the modules will be available for testing in Q2, and in full production by the end of 2019.
Designed for ease of use and quick deployment, GeoTraq offers businesses looking to create real ROI a solution that delivers the right data at the right time.
