MediaTek, a fabless semiconductor company on Monday, Feb. 25th 2019, at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event, held from Monday, Feb. 25th 2019 to Thursday, Feb. 28th 2019, at the Fira Gran Via, Fira Montjuïc, and La Farga L’Hospitalet in Barcelona, Spain, announced the rollout of 5G devices in 2020 for the sub-6GHz spectrum band as advancements to its 5G portfolio. At the MWC event, the company showcased its Helio M70 5G modem for the intelligent home running 5G data transfer speeds as well as mmWave (millimeter wave) over-the-air (OTA) tests of MediaTek’s 5G antenna arrays. The DEMO Helio M70 5G modem offers 4.2Gbps 5G data speeds which to date is the fastest sub-6GHz live 5G modem demonstration in the whole industry.
The company’s 5G tech has gone through extensive testing in the industry, and reports are that the Helio M70 5G modem will come embedded in devices later this year. MediaTek is leaving no stone unturned to rollout 5G and is working closely with customers, partners, networks, and technology suppliers to accelerate the rollout of 5G powered devices across mobile, home and auto by 2020.
According to TL Lee General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communication business unit, the company’s Helio M70 is the starting point to give manufacturers an ideal solution to deliver an ultra-fast and energy intelligent 5G experience, all in a compact form factor to facilitate elegant smartphone designs.
