Sequans Communications, a fabless single-mode 4G LTE semiconductor solutions provider & STMicroelectronics, a French-Italian multinational electronics and semiconductor manufacturing company have joined forces to bring LTE-IoT connectivity to the MCU ecosystem, in an attempt to boost MCU adoption. The companies together came up with a dedicated cellular extension board for STM32 Discovery kits using Sequans’ Monarch LTE-M/NB-IoT tech. STMicroelectronics expanded its STM32CUBE cellular software library to support Sequans’ existing Monarch-based GM01Q module.
While works on a more integrated solution, enriching the GM01Q module with an STM32 MCU, are in progress, the idea behind this all-in-one solution is to put cellular IoT connectivity on an accelerated path to adoption in the industry. The new integrated solution is expected to be launched later this year.
Sequans’ GM01Q STMod cellular extension board using Sequans’ Monarch-based GM01Q module, equips any STM32 Discovery board with LTE-M and NB-IoT connectivity. The cellular extension board along with its related software in the STM32Cube library ensures developers a powerful and simplified IoT development kit equipped with drivers and enriched & user-friendly features to quickly and easily establish a cellular-to-cloud connection.
Sequans’ GM01Q module comes with 17 LTE bands support for global connectivity. The cellular extension board comes pre-integrated into the STM32CUBE software suite providing STM32-based product connectivity to cloud servers, including AWS, GCP, Azure, and others, as the libraries become available. The kit consists of a high-performance antenna supporting frequencies 700 MHz – 2100 MHz, switchable SIM interface, eSIM, and MicroSIM, and free drivers and code examples.
