Sequans Communications, a fabless semiconductor company that specializes in single-mode 4G wireless semiconductor solutions for the internet of things (IoT), recently at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 event last month, held from Monday, Feb. 25th, 2019 to Thursday, Feb. 28th, 2019, at the Fira Gran Via, Fira Montjuïc, and La Farga L’Hospitalet in Barcelona, Spain, introduced its second generation world-leading LTE-M & NB-IoT chip platform, Monarch 2.
Sequans claims its Monarch 2 platform was built on its experience with its earlier first-generation Monarch’s extensive three year run as the leader in LTE for IoT chip platform since its inception in 2016, becoming the very first purpose-built LTE for IoT chip that powered the very first LTE-M devices. The Monarch 2 is full reuse of Monarch’s software and architecture, incorporating all its features, thus allowing a seamless transition to Monarch 2 to all existing Monarch customers. Furthermore, the Monarch 2 comes with advanced features which include an integrated secure element, to enable a variety of integrated SIMs; power consumption optimization with 60-percent improvement over the already industry-lowest Monarch; and a high level of integration that further simplifies IoT design tasks and lowers the cost of IoT devices.
According to Georges Karam, CEO, Sequans, the Monarch 2 is exclusively based on the knowledge the company gained over the last three years working with IoT device-makers and LTE operators all around the world. This experience and the real world knowledge of what customers desire for successful LTE IoT deployments enabled Sequans to come up with the Monarch 2 solution.
