ServiceMax, a field service management company has been acquired by the General Electrics for $915 million on Monday. The acquisition is expected to provide enterprises join what GE does for industrial products and assets with more tools for those who work on them. Software and services for connecting products and assets were sold by the division that is buying the ServiceMax. Making sure the right technician is assigning for the right job and scheduling maintenance calls is handled by the cloud-based platform from ServiceMax. Upon addition of the GE Digitals insights and analytics, the service management system will get smarter said the company is a statement. GE Digital is planning on developing more applications for service delivery using its cloud-based industrial internet platform. GE Digital CEO Bill Ruh said in a statement, “This acquisition builds upon our enduring efforts to improve our overall technology stack around the Predix platform and advance our Industrial Internet vision”.
GE used to collect data and insights arriving from the company made systems such as jet engines using Predix that started as an internal tool. Now the company is selling the tool as kind of an operating system for the IoT (Internet of Things).
