Sony Electronics Inc., in a statement on Tuesday, Jan. 15th 2019, announced a major upgrade to its α9 mirrorless camera that will be provided via a firmware update.
The company’s revolutionary α9 camera, with its best-in-class autofocus (AF) performance and image quality, with new updates, will receive a major performance boost and will come with enhanced new features that will redefine the overall workflow experience for professional photographers. Furthermore, the α7R III and α7 III will also receive firmware updates that are intended at enhancing Real-time Eye AF performance and add interval recording capacities.
According to Neal Manowitz, vice president of Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics, the new firmware upgrades demonstrate the strong commitment the company has for improving its customer’s experience. The company with its customer-centric approach values what they say, and works on achieving it, and is extremely honored to present the new update for customers.
The upcoming firmware update, version 5.0, for the α9 camera now integrates object tracking, with the company’s newly developed Real-time Tracking mode. The new mode utilizes Sony’s AI-based object recognition algorithm to process color, subject distance (depth), pattern (brightness) and spatial (distance) information to ensure subject capturing with extreme accuracy and precision. When capturing stills or video-shooting humans or animals, AI-optimization is used to deduce face and eye position information followed by real-time monitoring of the subject’s eyes, with extremely high tracking precision.
