Corning Incorporated, an American multinational technology company specialized in specialty glass, ceramics, and related materials and technologies, and Italian carrier – TIM have entered a partnership agreement to cooperate on a number of network applications and services including the latest 5G cellular mobile communications service.
As per the drawn partnership agreement, TIM and Corning will together work on innovative solutions in the fields of fiber technologies, 5G, IoT, smart cities, and artificial intelligence (AI). Both entities will be working on the evolution of infrastructure and broadband customer network platforms to better support the currently growing IoT and 5G trends. Further, the agreement also allows TIM and Corning to indulge in and foster cooperation with other technology service providers and industry forums, to enable innovations and share industry best practices.
According to Lucy Lombardi, Head of Digital and Ecosystem Innovation at TIM, the carrier aims to cooperate with companies that will usher it into the future as a leader in communication services as industry accelerates on the path of network evolution. Adding further, Lombardi said that Corning, being a leader, in materials science, innovation, and fiber technology, was an obvious partnership choice. Both companies share the vision of transformation through network openness, virtualization and simplification to provide customers with a much superior digital experience.
