According to the company officials, the new microSD card is to assist developers of AI-enabled security cameras, smart video surveillance, and advanced edge devices with seamless video storage solutions, as these smart devices are apt at capturing and storing video at higher bit rates than mainstream cameras.

As and as the availability of AI-enabled 4K and higher video resolutions smart cameras become a norm, the higher capacity, intelligent, and durable storage will increasingly be in great demand.

The San Jose-based Western Digital says its small form factor storage solution was specifically developed to meet the extreme endurance, high capacity, and challenging environments demands for the edge storage to offer peace of mind, confident high-quality video storage solutions while greatly barring the need for frequent replacements.
