PROVO, Utah — Vivint Smart Home, a leading smart home company, received the Utah Genius Award as the Top Patent Company in Utah for the number of patents issued in 2018. Three Vivint executives – Jeremy Warren, Jim Nye, and Matt Eyring – also made the Utah Genius list of Top 20 Patentees in the state.
The Utah Genius awards program recognizes the people and companies behind the innovations driving Utah’s economy. As the top patent company in Utah, Vivint had a total of 74 corporate patents issued by the U.S. Patent & Trade Office in 2018. The patents span technology innovation across Vivint’s smart home platform and services.
Three Vivint executives are also on the Utah Genius list of Top 20 Patentees:
- Jeremy Warren, Chief Technology Officer, second place with 33 patents – Warren drives Vivint’s technology roadmap, partnerships, and strategy, and has been responsible for product engineering across hardware, software, and analytics.
- Jim Nye, Chief Product Operations Officer, fourth place with 22 patents – Nye is responsible for new product and technology development, including overseeing product requirements, testing, and rollouts, as well as managing key business partnerships.
- Matt Eyring, Executive Vice President, ninth place with 16 patents – Eyring created and launched the Vivint Innovation Center in 2013, a key factor for the company’s securing the No. 22 position on Fast Company’s list of The World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies in 2017.
- “Given that Vivint Smart Home had only one patent in its portfolio five years ago, we are especially proud to be recognized as the patent leader in the state for 2018,” said Eyring. “Vivint has made technology and innovation a top corporate priority, and this award — along with the extremely positive market reception of our latest products — reflects our focus.”
Vivint offers a comprehensive suite of smart home products with flexible pricing and service plans. Vivint provides professional installation and nationwide in-home service, as well as 24/7 professional monitoring and customer care.
Now in its 11th year, the Utah Genius Awards program recognizes the companies and individuals who secured the most patents and trademarks throughout the past year. Data from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office informs the list of award recipients. In 2018, there were 2,185 patents issued in Utah.
